I also have a hydroponic setup called Emily’s garden and the pump seems very weak that came with it is it not useable if I don’t visibly see the water moving around or is it alright because the water has air getting pumped through it

  4. Hit wrong key. Can you or any other grower offer some advice as to what may be going on here? I can see if they both were the same strain but they look nothing alike other than doing the same thing. One more ? Is there a simpler way of getting all my plant the nutes they need like copper, Boron, zinc, calcium and so on and so on. Does the Folra 3 part cover all those. Oh and I use Azomite about once ever 2-3 months. Not much. A tsp per gal of water and make enough to split equally between 18 plants that are about 2 months old and doing well. Sexted only 2 of thise so far. Help please and Aloha to you all.

  5. Aloha My Helpers anf fellow grower,
I have 2 different unkown strains (freebie seeds). They both are in organic soil and I am using Flora 3 part nutes and 6.5 PH water. I feed every other week and water when buckets feel light to lift. I give the Aquashield if it rains for 4-6 sraight days. I live in Hawaii so they get about 14 hrs of daylight. They both are about 4 months old. They look health, 4&5 FT tall. One is in a 23 gal tub and the other 14 gal bucket. My problem is, they both are females and started to flower about 2 months ago but I only see a single flower pod at the nodes a sparenly here and ther on all the branches on both plants. They seem to be at a stand still. The buds are not clustering at all. I tried to send pics but lost my whole text. I have read all kinds of litterature but can not find and answer so here i am. Doyou or any other have a word or words

  6. I hate being a newbie, but I guess you got to start somewhere right? anyway my problem is my plants are tilting from or to the lamp I am using. Ive got a 4 by 4 grow tent using a 400w hps system. Im growing 6 autos in soil. I have my lamp just about 3 feet above them and I have the temp around 75 to 80 with good air flow. the plants are in week 3 and are looking great and healthy. Just wondering about why the tops tilt to or away from the light. thanks man
oh yeah ive just introduced them to a very little nutes. Im using tomato plant nutes.

    1. Hi davinci
We were all newbies at one time!. you dont sound to have a problem, plants grow or lean towards the brightest light. Sometimes young seedlings which have been started under poor light stretch and fall over but once they have good light correct themselves and start growing upright again.

I presume you are growing in soil? if so don’t be tempted to feed them too often as autos finish quickly and usually dont need much feeding. Also try not to over water them, wait until the pots feel light when you pick them up and you should have a good crop. I hope that has answered you question good luck

  7. Great site guys thanks! Billy and heath you 2 are my heroes and I’ve learned most I know from both of you. You make it look so simple.

I have a Rdwc rig I’m building and am going to ebb n flow in buckets first to build roots in 10″ netpots first with hydroton. I will hopefully have deep enough roots to put in rdwc after a week or so I hope. I used one of Heath’s “auto-cad” diagrams that uses the drain to set the level of nutrient solution instead of a controller bucket. I really like this design because of the flood control aspect.

My question is if I build roots 1st in ebb n flow, at what height will my drain pipe have to be relative to the netpot? Should the nutrient solution be above, at or below the netpot bottom? I dont want to build the wrong roots in the wrong places. Im still trying to understand cord roots and fuzzy roots and how they grow and their relation to uptake of nurtrients. Sterile res is my goal and using canna. thanks for everything! grow free!

    1. Hello Akson,
Thank you for your kind comments im glad you like my autocad drawings lol : )

About your question, If I understand correctly you are going to ebb n flow in the veg phase and then use recirculating deep water culture (RDWC)? if so just flood the plant in veg above the bottom of whatever pot you are using this will build up a good root structure inside and outside of the netpot.

When you transfer to the plant to the DWRC system set the level at the bottom of the pot up to 4″ below its not really critical. Cord roots are formed when there is a big gap between the bottom of the pot and the nutrient solution. This typically happens in Deep Water Culture (DWC) systems either because the plants have used the nutrients the nutrient level drops or the nutrient level was set too low in the first place.

Also remember that if you transfer from ebb and flow to RDWC you might need to top feed for a couple of days using a jug or something until the roots adapt

I hope that answers your question if not let me know!

      Heath

      1. Yes it makes perfect since. Again I thank you for the wisdom you and billy share with the world. I am very grateful for the chance to ask true master gardeners such things. Sending much good karma your ways.

    1. Hydroponic pH Up & Down is the most concentrated and is cheap to buy when you consider the small amount needed to alter the ph of your nutrient.

Common household ingredients which will work well for PH up is Baking soda
      citric acid for ph down.

but if the hydroponic ph up & down is available to you I would use that.
