Derry, the owner of Barney’s Farm, developed a collection of cannabis landraces during his time in Asia. Including Asia Minor, Afghanistan, Pakistan, India, Tibet, Thailand, Burma, Vietnam. and China in the early 80s.
For three years, he climbed the heights of the Himalayan mountains, and with other talented breeders with the same state of mind, he began crossbreeding, cultivation and other trials with these varieties.
They chose to retain the phenotypes among which the richness of THC , taste, and aroma prevailed and that is how they began to reproduce them. The results were really exciting and we were really ecstatic when it came time to harvest, where multiple hybrids indica and sativa grew as snow and winter settled.
It was not until 1992 that Derry, back in Amsterdam, opened the Barney Coffee Shop. He had, of course, brought with him the seeds of the varieties from which he had collected in the Himalayas. Then Barney’s Farm quickly became a research laboratory on a good package of high-quality cannabis strains.
It was not long before cannabis growers began to realize that there were special varieties there, with people coming from all over the world to taste our genetics.
Today, Barney’s Farm is recognized as one of the leaders in the production of top quality cannabis seeds and continues to research and collect indigenous genetics from lost places.
